Why Clients Work With Me

Amy Million, CDFA®, AAMS®, BFA™

Most people don't contact me because they know exactly what they need.

They reach out because they're overwhelmed.

Maybe you've never managed the family's finances and now you're expected to make decisions about retirement accounts, business interests, taxes, the family home, and your financial future.

Maybe you're preparing for mediation or already involved in litigation.

Maybe you've received financial documents that raise more questions than answers.

Or maybe you simply know something doesn't feel right, but you don't know how to explain it to your attorney.

That's where I can help.

I'm a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® (CDFA®), Behavioral Financial Advisor™, Certified Mediator, and wealth advisor with more than 22 years of experience helping people navigate complex financial decisions.

While many professionals earn the CDFA® designation to complement a traditional wealth management practice, divorce financial strategy is the primary focus of mine.

I work primarily with women involved in complex and high-conflict divorces involving business owners, professionals, executive compensation, retirement assets, separate property, and financially complicated estates.

Many of my clients are intelligent, capable women who simply weren't the person managing the family's finances. They're suddenly expected to make some of the biggest financial decisions of their lives while trying to understand years of financial information they've never had to manage before.

One of the things I hear most often is,

"You get it."

Or...

"Thank you for putting words to what I've been trying to explain."

"I knew something wasn't right, but I didn't know how to explain it to my lawyer."

Those comments mean more to me than anything else because they tell me I've done my job.

My job isn't simply to analyze numbers.

It's to help people make sense of them.

I help clients prepare financial affidavits, create marital balance sheets, evaluate settlement proposals, compare settlement scenarios, analyze business income and cash flow, complete lifestyle analyses, trace separate property, organize discovery, and prepare for mediation or litigation.

I also work with clients and their attorneys when the financial picture raises more questions than answers.

That may include reviewing incomplete discovery, analyzing sudden changes in reported income, evaluating claims of unemployment or insolvency, reviewing possible dissipation of marital assets, identifying unusual transfers or spending patterns, or helping determine what additional financial information should be requested before meaningful settlement discussions can take place.

One area that also sets my practice apart is my background in tax and IRS matters.

Divorce doesn't happen in a vacuum. Property divisions, retirement accounts, business interests, filing status, IRS liabilities, innocent spouse relief, capital gains, carryforward tax attributes, and other tax issues can significantly affect both a settlement and your financial future. I help clients understand those issues before agreements are signed—not after they become expensive surprises.

I don't assume wrongdoing.

I don't make accusations.

I follow the numbers.

My role is to organize the facts, explain the financial story, and help clients understand their options so they can make informed decisions with confidence.

For many clients, that relationship doesn't end when the divorce is final. I continue helping them implement their settlement, navigate taxes, retirement decisions, investments, and long-term financial planning as they begin the next chapter of their lives.

Divorce is one of the biggest financial transitions most people will ever face.

You don't have to figure it out alone.

With grit and gratitude,

Amy
